Wekalet Behna aims at building a contemporary art framework that stimulates critical thinking and rethinking of the constant and dominant contemporary artistic and institutional practices. Founded in 2014 in Alexandria, Wekalet Behna centers on visual and contemporary arts as well as alternative education. The space includes three cinema halls, an open public library, a showroom and a film archive.
Wekalet Behna vise à mettre en place une structure qui stimule la pensée critique et la remise en question des pratiques artistiques et institutionnelles contemporaines dominantes. Fondé en 2014 à Alexandrie, Wekalet Behna est pointé sur les arts visuels et contemporains ainsi que sur l’éducation alternative. L’espace comprend trois salles de cinéma, une bibliothèque publique en accès libre, une salle d’exposition et des archives cinématographiques.
تهدف “وكالة بهنا” إلى بناء هيكلية عمل تُحفِّز التفكير النقدي وإعادة النظر في الممارسات الفنية والمؤسسية الشائعة والراسخة في مجال الفن المعاصر. تأسست “وكالة بهنا” بالإسكندرية في العام 2014، وتُركّز على الفنون البصرية والمعاصرة كما على التعليم البديل. يشمل فضاء “وكالة بهنا” ثلاث صالات عرض سينمائي ومكتبة عامة وقاعة عرض وأرشيف فيلمي.
Wekalet Behna aims to offer culture to audiences in Alexandria, particularly to those without access to quality culture beyond the mainstream content offered by public institutions. The organization offers activities open to all audiences, including film screenings and art exhibitions, in order to build knowledge aiming to change and create new social realities. These activities also want to partially compensate for poor education services in Egypt through a methodology based on open-source knowledge exchange.
Wekalet Behna vise à proposer un accès à la culture au public éloigné d’Alexandrie, qui ne reçoit que la culture populaire avancée par les institutions publiques. Wekalat organise des activités ouvertes à tous les publics, notamment des projections de films et des expositions d’art, afin de développer des connaissances sources et moteurs de changement et de nouvelles réalités sociales. Les activités offertes viennent aussi compenser l’éducation publique inadéquate à travers une méthodologie d’éducation libre et ouverte (open source).
تهدف “بهنا” إلى إتاحة الثقافة لسكّان الإسكندرية ممّن لا يستطيعون الوصول إلى خدمات ثقافية غير تلك التي تقدمها المؤسسات الرسمية. تنظّم “وكالة بهنا” فعاليات مفتوحة للعموم كعروض السينما والمعارض التشكيلية وغيرها، ساعيةً بذلك إلى تعزيز محتوى معرفي يُساهم في تغيير الواقع الاجتماعي. ومن خلال منهجية حرة تعتمد على نموذج التبادل المعرفي والمصادر المفتوحة، تسعى المؤسسة إلى التعويض جزئيّاً عن سوء الخدمة التعليمية في مصر.
Wekalet Behna operates in Alexandria under the current Egyptian reality of deteriorating cultural services and extreme repression of grassroots movements and art production. Through its recent restructuring, Wekalet Behna seeks to ensure the continuity of the Godran Foundation, who, within 20 years, was able to instigate change in the Alexandrian cultural scene particularly in music, literature, cinema, and supporting film productions through new art spaces.
Wekalet Behna intervient en Alexandrie dans le cadre de la réalité actuelle caractérisée par une dégradation des services culturels et une forte répression des mouvements populaires et de la production artistique. Grâce à sa restructuration récente, Wekalet Behna tente d’assurer la continuité des efforts menés initialement par la Fondation Godran qui, en l’espace de 20 ans, a su provoquer des changements sur la scène culturelle alexandrine, notamment dans le domaine de la musique, de la littérature, du cinéma et du soutien aux productions cinématographiques à travers la création de nouveaux espaces artistiques.
تعمل “وكالة بهنا” في الإسكندرية ضمن السياق الاجتماعي المصري الحالي الذي يتّصف بتردي الخدمة الثقافية والتضييق الشديد على العمل الأهلي وإنتاج الفنون بشكل عام. من خلال إعادة هيكلة “وكالة بهنا” حديثاً، سعينا إلى استكمال عمل مؤسسة “جدران” التي استطاعت، خلال 20 عاماً، أن تُحدِث تغييراً في المشهد الثقافي السكندري، خصوصاً على المستوى الموسيقي والأدبي، والعروض السينمائية ودعم الإنتاج السينمائي عبر مساحات فنية جديدة.
Wekalet Behna’s project aims at ensuring its sustainability, protecting the space and completing its maintenance, implementing a plan for the protection of its archives, and setting a strategic plan for artistic programs that focus on research, rethinking and criticism, and the diversification of the use of the arts.
Le projet NACP de Wekalet Behna permet d’assurer la durabilité de l’association,à préserver l’espace et en assurer l’entretien, à mettre en œuvre un plan de protection de ses archives et à établir une stratégie pour développer des programmes artistiques axés sur la recherche, la réflexion et la critique, ainsi que sur la diversification de l’utilisation des arts.
يهدف المشروع إلى ضمان استدامة “وكالة بهنا”، وتأمين مقرها وصيانته، وتنفيذ خطة لحفظ أرشيفها، وبناء استراتيجية لتطوير برامج فنية تُركّز على البحث والتفكير النقدي وتنويع استخدامات الفنون.
